Lords of the Fallen looks to Dark Souls for inspiration

Tomasz Gop, former developer on The Witcher series, has been talking to VG247 about his upcoming hardcore next gen RPG, Lords of the Fallen. The experience, he says, will be similar to Dark Souls in that the real journey in the game is from quivering newbie to hardened expert, and the difficulty has been designed to ensure that journey has meaning.

"This is a game about you crossing the gap, and the difference and distance between being a random noob at the beginning, and skilled pro player at the end," Gop tells the website. "This crafting of your skill is what this is about, and I thought Dark Souls was exactly about the same thing."

"For me personally - and it was one of the biggest take-aways from Dark Souls - I could honestly say, that I was on the other side of the experience that people beginning the game have. Like, at the end of the day I could honestly say, 'I owned the game.' This is exactly what you're trying to get with the right mind-set with games like Dark Souls, and I believe Lords is going to do the same thing."

The world of Lords of the Fallen has an angry god imprisoned underground, beneath a mountain range, with only his arm sticking out. In this world, criminals have their sins tattooed on their body, and when this god's minions start to run amok, it's up to the most tattooed - and therefore most badass - guy around to put an end to it.

Lords of the Fallen is in development for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC and is due this Autumn.
