A FAN'S GUIDE TO HAMMER HOUSE OF HORROR & LITTLE BOOK OF HORROR FILMS

A FAN S GUIDE TO HAMMER HOUSE OF HORROR: The Hammer production company defined the British horror film genre with a series of boundary-breaking movies which shocked and thrilled in equal measures and have today earned cult status. This is the history of Hammer Film Productions, the world s most successful independent studio. Hammer, founded in 1935, achieved its greatest success during the 1950s and 70s, producing over 70 horror, science fiction and fantasy films and making stars of Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Oliver Reed and Raquel Welch, as well as producing films with such legendary figures as Bette Davis. This DVD tells the story of Hammer, from humble beginnings with films such as The Curse of Frankenstein and Dracula to international success with 1 Million Years BC. Includes interviews with Christopher Lee and many of the stars and technicians, as well as numerous clips and previously unseen behind-the-scenes footage. This programme explores the company s rich archive and provides a sneak preview of the new Hammer movie.

LITTLE BOOK OF HORROR FILMS: In Hollywood in the 1930s, characters such as Dracula and Frankenstein s monster made stars of actors like Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff then, in 1950s Britain, the mantle was taken up by Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. The 1970s took films into ever-darker territory, with William Friedkin's The Exorcist often cited as the greatest horror film of all time, while others preferred the breathless excitement of the stalk-and-slash in John Carpenter s Halloween. Freddy Krueger in A Nightmare on Elm Street became the cinema s most popular bogeyman in the 1980s, and more recently hordes of zombies have returned for a bloodthirsty rampage through several big-budget blockbusters. Here you will find 50 acknowledged classic horrors, from FW Murnau s cobwebby vampire story Nosferatu via the Universal movies, the Hammer Horrors and The Night of the Living Dead, to The Wicker Man and The Omen, up to more recent box-office hits such as Paranormal Activity. Here are zombies, werewolves, ghosts and vampires, with a couple of psychopaths and Things from Another World too. Fifty greats that might help to answer the question... what s your favourite scary movie?
