Hardcore 'Ranger' difficulty for Metro: Last Light Limited Edition

If you like your shooters mean and tough, you should probably make sure you pre-order THQ's upcoming post-apocalyptic sequel Metro: Last Light as soon as possible. The game's limited edition will be the only one available at launch, but once it runs out you'll only be able to get the standard edition.

What's the difference? Well, for fans the big selling point is the addition of the Ranger difficulty mode. In the previous game, Metro 2033, this difficulty level was strictly for the hardcore, removing all HUD elements and introducing one hit kills. You'll also get bonus military grade ammunition - used as currency in the game, as well as being useful for shooting - and an exclusive weapon, the AKS-74U rifle.

The Metro games are based on a Russian science fiction novel by author Dmitry Glukhovsky. It's set after a global nuclear war, and follows the survivors living in Moscow's underground railway tunnels. Spooky and satisfying, the first game was one of the most surprising hits of 2010.

The sequel, being developed once again by 4A Games for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, is set for a March 2013 release.
