Godzilla stomping towards consoles in 2015

The king of the monsters is coming back to consoles! Bandai Namco has confirmed it is working on a new Godzilla game, set for launch in Summer 2015.

The game will be set 60 years after Godzilla's original 1954 rampage, and revolves around the idea that mankind has harvested world-changing “G Energy” from the giant kaiju monsters that once terrorised the planet. Except now, of course, our use of that energy has brought the monsters back.

Based on the Japanese movies from Toho Studios rather than the recent American reboot, the game will cast you as Godzilla but will also feature cult creatures such as King Ghidorah and Mecha-Godzilla. There will be 20 stages to smash your way through, and as Godzilla collects more G Energy, he'll grow even larger. The press announcement promises a Mission Mode, Diorama Mode, and King of Monsters Mode.

There hasn't been a new Godzilla console game since 2007, but the monster star is definitely back in vogue. Not only was his Hollywood makeover a huge success, with a sequel in the works, but Toho has also announced that it is working on its first new Godzilla film for 12 years.

Simply called Godzilla, the new game will be out next summer for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
