Forza 5 offering discounts and free cars

Turn 10 has revealed that the in-game economy is being tweaked and offering a tempting array of freebies to current players

Sumptuous Xbox One launch title Forza 5 has ruffled a few feathers with its use of micropayments to unlock cars, but developer Turn 10 has revealed that the in-game economy is already being tweaked in accordance to player feedback, and it is also offering a tempting array of freebies to current players.

According to an update on the official website from Forza community manager Brian Ekberg, all cars in the game will have their prices slashed by half for the weekend of 30 November to 2 December. In addition, players who have bought the VIP package will receive a free 2013 Lotus E21 Grand Prix car.

If you've already bought the Lotus E21, you'll get the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO in its place, and if you've got the LaFerrari Car Pack or the Forza Motorsport 5 Car Pass you'll be given the 2013 LaFerrari free of charge.

There's good news for anyone who bought the Limited Edition version of the game too. That came with 1250 tokens, which customers were told would be enough to buy any car in the game. That's not the case, so everyone affected will be able to download the car of their choice, free of charge, via a special website that Microsoft aims to have up and running by 16 December.

Forza Rewards, the loyalty scheme that pays out in-game credits for hours played, will also be getting cranked up, with rewards increased "dramatically" from December. "The higher your Tier level reaches before December rolls around, the better the rewards you'll be able to redeem," says Ekberg's update, "so get your play time in now and level up!"

"Looking ahead, we'll continue to make further adjustments to the Forza Motorsport 5 economy when they're needed and I'll be sure to keep you informed as these changes are made," Ekberg concludes. "For now, take advantage of all the cool stuff coming your way and, as always, thanks for your patience and for being a member of the Forza Motorsport community."

Forza Motorsport 5 is exclusive to Xbox One and is out now.
