It’s not quite a crystal ball, but EA has used FIFA 14 to run a simulation of all the matches from the upcoming World Cup and reckons it knows who will be holding aloft the Jules Rimet on July 13th.

It’s Germany, or at least that’s who won after 32 AI-powered matches played out using FIFA’s in-game engine and impressive arsenal of player stats. Other notable predictions from the virtual tournament have Brazil’s Neymar taking home the Golden Boot after scoring six goals, while Spanish midfielder Iniesta gets the accolade of the tournament’s best goal. Sadly, it comes during a quarter final match that sees England exit the tournament.

Is it all just a bit of silly digital fun? Probably, but EA ran a similar simulation four years ago and correctly tipped Spain as the World Cup winners. Given how much more data the FIFA engine is now using, this system is probably as good as any you’ll find. And if you fancy playing along at home, FIFA 14’s World Cup mode is now live across all versions of the game, and of course there's EA SPORTS 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3!
