Turn-based combat? Check. Pretty graphics and a mad storyline? Check. Yes, Mugen Souls Z for the PS3 is your typical 'sultry' JRPG - but don't go holding that against it.

The sequel to Mugen Souls, the game sees our heroine, the Undisputed God of the Universe Chou-Cho returning. This time though, she's on mission to bring twelve worlds to (high) heel. Trouble is she's been stripped of her powers and must enlist the help of Ultimate God, Syrma. So far, so bonkers then, and with its bright, preppy Manga graphics, Mugen Souls Z certainly has the looks to match.

But let's get one thing clear from the off - those cutesy cartoon visuals may look kid-friendly, but we all know that looks can be deceiving. Mugen Souls Z is in fact soaked in what hardened JRPG fans might call 'naughtiness', the kind often associated with certain Japanese games. Those less forgiving could deem the game's content and graphics as a bit too 'oh, missus' for their liking.

Whatever side of the fence you're on, expect to traverse 12 different worlds with a ragtag team of warriors, meeting crazy characters and engaging with the enemy in turn-based combat. What makes the combat stand out is the ability to 'captivate' foe and use them to power your G-Ship; these 'upgrades' can then be used to help your ship in battle against enemy vessels in a separate arena new to the series.

Actually captivating said opponent involves striking a 'Fetish pose'. Yes, we did warn you. Match the right pose to ensnare the enemy's attention such as hugging them and they'll succumb to your onscreen character's charms. Benny Hill would be so proud; your mother not so much.

But while such action may be, let's say, a tad embarrassing, the basic game mechanics remain highly effective. And it's these solid mechanics that ensures Mugen Souls Z is worthwhile, and not simply a sauce fest. And PS3 owners with an insatiable appetite for fresh JRPGS can be assured that if they spend their pennies, they'll end up with a highly enjoyable take on the genre.
