Dragon's Dogma may be going online

Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen on PS3 at GAME.co.uk

Capcom's massive and characterful RPG, Dragon's Dogma, has been one of the best gaming surprises of the last few years – a new entry in a crowded genre that stood out from the crowd and earned its place alongside the likes of The Witcher and Dragon Age as an experience worth your time.

News on a sequel has been slow to emerge, but it seems we may hear something sooner rather than later. In the latest issue of Japanese magazine Dengeki PlayStation, Dragon’s Dogma director Hideaki Itsuno and Minaeu Matsukawa, producer of the Dark Arisen expansion, both responded to a survey aimed at games developers.

Itsuno revealed that his team has “several games in the pipeline right now” and that one of those games is in the “last stages” and will be announced “soon”. Matsukawa continued: “We’re working really hard to get ready for people to learn about what we have coming up in 2015 and get them excited to play those games.”

This follows the discovery that in early December last year, Capcom trademarked the name Dragon's Dogma Online in Japan, the USA and Europe. Whether that means the sequel will be a full-blown MMO, or that it will have a separate online mode, we'll just have to wait and see.
