Devil's Third almost completed, due in 2014

Devil's Third, the mysterious third-person shooter from eccentric Japanese developer Tomonobu Itagaki, is due to hit consoles later this year

Devil's Third, the mysterious third-person shooter from eccentric Japanese developer Tomonobu Itagaki, is due to hit consoles later this year. The man himself confirmed the news as part of a New Year feature on 4Gamers.

"Next year will be the year we'll be releasing the console game, Devil's Third," Itagaki said. "At the moment, it is about 80% complete, and we can about see the end of it. However, there's still a little more polishing that needs to be done. That's also one of the reasons I've decided to work independently."

Itagaki is best known as the brains behind the ruthless Ninja Gaiden series and the pneumatic fighting game Dead or Alive. Devil's Third was originally set up at THQ, but was dropped by the troubled publisher in 2012 just before the company collapsed. Since then, Itagaki has continued development on the game independently at his new outfit, Valhalla Game Studios. There's still no word on who will publish the game now. "For you fans out there, I'd like to apologize for making you worry," Itagaki added. "We'll be going all out next year, so please look forward to it."

Devil's Third is planned for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It is unknown if a next generation version is on the cards.
