Ubisoft has confirmed long-circulating rumours that it will release two Assassin's Creed games this year. Assassin's Creed: Unity, for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, we know all about – it looks amazing and is due on October 28th. Now the publisher has announced that it will be joined by Assassin's Creed: Rogue, which will release for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 11th.

Rogue will see you playing as a Templar for the first time in the series. Your character, Shay Cormac, swaps sides after being betrayed by the Assassins, arch-rivals of the Templars. The storyline will complete the series detour into North American history that began with Assassin's Creed 3 and continued through Assassin's Creed: Liberation and Assassin's Creed: Black Flag.

Rogue also ties in with Unity, by using the 18th Century conflict known as the Seven Year War as its backdrop. This European ruckus dragged America into the fighting, and created the conditions in France which would lead to the French Revolution a few decades later. That revolution is, of course, the setting for Unity. Screenshots and a teaser trailer for Rogue confirm that naval battles will return, and that the setting is desolate and icy. Ubisoft has described it as the darkest Assassin's Creed game yet.

"We know that there are many Assassin's Creed fans with Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles who want to get their hands on a new Assassin's Creed game this year," says Martin Capel, director of Ubisoft's studio in Sofia, Bulgaria, where the bulk of Rogue has been developed.
