ArmA III gets launch date and special edition details

Legendary hardcore military simulator ArmA III will come in two editions when it launches next month, publisher Koch Media has confirmed.

As well as the standard edition, the game will also be available in a limited special edition, which comes clad in a slinky hologram slip case. As well as the game, the box contains an activation key card, a map of Altis Island a control overview. Also included are some digital goodies - a download of the game's soundtrack, a strategy guide, downloadable maps and - best of all - a free copy of ArmA Cold War Assault.

The ArmA series has won over legions of fans with its ruthless realism and strong tactical edge. It's a first-person openworld game, but it's still far more in-depth than even Battlefield, its most obvious comparison.

ArmA III hit the headlines last year when two employees of Czech developer Bohemia Interactive were arrested on the Greek island of Lemnos and charged with espionage, after being caught taking photos and videos of military installations. The pair were only released in January, having spent over 120 days in custody. How's that for dedication?

ArmA III will be released on September 12th, exclusively for PC.
