What is Sociable Soccer 24?
Some of you (i.e. old people like me) may remember a classic football game from years gone by called Sensible Soccer. Created by the legendary game designer Jon Hare, Sensible Soccer (also known as Sensi) was the football game to play in the early 1990s. First released in 1992 on the Amiga and Atari systems and followed by the even more popular sequel, Sensible World of Soccer in 1994, it employed a top-down/bird's eye view with fast-paced, easy-to-pick-up (it had very simple controls) but incredibly deep gameplay. It also included the fantastical, but incredibly fun, 'aftertouch' mechanic where you could add swerve to your passes and shots after you'd kicked the ball. Boy did it enable you to score some absolutely belting goals.
Fast forward to 2024 and Sensible Soccer's spiritual successor will soon arrive in the form of Sociable Soccer 24. Let's now kick off (sorry, not sorry) and tell you all about the return of one of the greatest football franchises ever.
What is Sociable Soccer 24 All About?
Following a stint on Apple Arcade back in 2019 as Sociable Soccer, the new Sociable Soccer 24 will bring a relatively different perspective to the football genre but continue to stay incredibly faithful to its Sensible Soccer roots. This isn't EA Sports FC (previously the FIFA franchise), or eFootball (previously the Pro Evolution Soccer series, and International Superstar Soccer before that), aiming for ultra-realism.
Sociable Soccer 24 will, as its predecessors did, feature more arcade-style gameplay. It's fast and adrenaline-inducing, and the user-friendly controls will soon make you feel like a master of the game. That was always a hugely enjoyable element of the Sensi series - you could be facing a much better opponent who is raining attack after attack from all angles, your keeper somehow keeping every effort away from goal (along with a little help from the woodwork!) and then with a few sweet and swift passes, it's YOU who is bearing down on THEIR goal and peppering them with world class shots. Success was hard earned and felt satisfying. It was always, and still promises to be, a thrilling tug-of-war football gaming experience.
That said, fantastic fun aside, Sociable Soccer 24, is also staying true to its roots by taking itself very seriously when it comes to the depth and quality of content. It is FIFPRO licensed, so you'll have around 13,000 Licensed Professional Footballers included from the 23/24 season (and 30,000 overall), 1,000 football teams to choose from and 80 real-world trophies to contend for. It may be arcade-style gameplay, but the teams, rosters and leagues are all realistic.
There's also plenty of modes to choose from - take on others in online and offline PvP matches, build a team from scratch and climb up 10 division ranking leagues, compete for the real-world trophies, and join fellow fans of your (real-world) team to face off against fans of other teams in the clan system.
Should You Play Sociable Soccer 24?
Some games can be tricky to get into. Some can be difficult to master the controls and truly make the most of whatever is in your arsenal.
Not Sociable Soccer 24. This is a game that is designed and championed as the ultimate 'pick up and play' experience. The controls are simple and will make you feel like a football god in no time. So, in short, everyone and anyone should give Sociable Soccer 24 a go.
What Makes Sociable Soccer 24 Stand Out From the Rest
The key difference between Sociable Soccer 24 and other football titles is its unique arcade-style gameplay. No other game has come close to replicating the Sensi magic. It's also packed full of tongue in cheek humour that'll keep you amused.
