Funko Fusion: What We Know

Published on 10th May 2024 by Guy Lanham

Funko Fusion

Ever wanted to see your favourite Funko Pop! collectibles come to life? How about a mish mash of your favourite licences in one action-packed video game? Well then, we present: Funko Fusion!

For those unfamiliar with the brand (is there anyone?!), Funko Pops are vinyl collectibles from across a huge range of pop culture universes. If there's a TV show, AAA game or film that you love, chances are there's a Funko Pop! Collectible for it. Seriously, to this day, there's over 13,000 different collectibles across thousands of IPs in existence.

What's it about?

Funko Fusion Battlestar Galactica

Now, before we get into it, let's take a quick trip down memory lane. Funko Pops became available in 2010, and soon after, they sort of took the world by storm. These days, you'll see Funko Pop! Collectibles in just about every major retailer and comic shop you come across.

Fast forward to 2022; Funko Fusion is announced as a work in progress from first-time developers 10:10 Games. Then a year later the first teaser was revealed, which left fans even more intrigued. Recently in April 2024, the official announcement trailer was revealed containing more details including the release date. Take a look at the official trailer below.

Although this is the first title the team is working on, there's no need to fret. The newly-formed company consists of talented developers who worked on a number of beloved LEGO games.

At the helm, we have Jon Burton, TT Games founder and BAFTA award winner. So I think we can all agree the game is in good hands. And if that's not enough to pique your interest, they have none other than Clancy Brown narrating the story.

What kind of game is it?

Funko Fusion is basically a third-person, online co-op adventure title allowing up to 4 players to group together. Not only do you get to battle enemies like Funko Raptors, but you also get to solve puzzles and explore huge maps based on our beloved franchises.

Many people are dubbing this the 'new' LEGO Dimensions with mature elements. However, please be aware this is not a toys-to-life game. So you won't be able to use Funko Pop! Figures as in-game characters (sorry collectors!).

The trailer reveals a surprisingly high amount of blood and gore, suggesting this title is aimed at more mature audiences. In our opinion, this is what sets it apart from other IP crossover projects. We get to see a clash of horror blockbusters like Shaun of the Dead, The Thing and Jaws. Can you imagine a world where dinosaurs collide with zombies and blood-hungry sharks? I mean, come on. If that's not cool, I don't know what is!

In terms of plot, not much has been revealed as of yet, so we can only speculate on which direction it will take. But we will leave that for the fans.

Confirmed IPs

Funko Fusion Jurassic World

The publishers have confirmed at least 20 different licences. The list of franchises has been deliberately chosen to appeal to fans of all ages. There are characters from classic animation series like He-Man and the horror series, The Thing. Then, there's Five Nights at Freddy's and Jurassic World that will appeal to the younger audiences.

Here's the list of IPs we know about so far:

  • Back to The Future
  • Battlestar Galactica
  • Child's Play 2
  • Chucky
  • Five Nights at Freddy's
  • Hot Fuzz
  • Invincible
  • Jurassic World
  • Knight Rider
  • Masters of the Universe
  • M3gan
  • Nope
  • Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
  • Shaun of the Dead
  • The Mummy
  • The Thing
  • The Walking Dead
  • Umbrella Academy
  • Universal Studios Monsters
  • Voltron
  • Xena: Warrior Princess

This list is by no means exhaustive! 10:10 games themselves have revealed they will consider including more in the future, based on popular request.

Some notable characters that we've spotted

Funko Fusion The Mummy

  • Rick O'Connell from The Mummy
  • Freddy Fazbear from Five Nights at Freddy's
  • He-Man from Masters of the Universe
  • Frankenstein
  • Scott Pilgrim
  • Klaus Hargreeves from Umbrella Academy

The game is reportedly made by fans, for fans, and we can certainly see that. In a statement, the company reported it aims to "create an incredible co-op experience", and we're confident it will.

We're also excited to see Umbrella Academy making an appearance in this fusion of worlds. Umbrella Academy sadly hasn't been involved in many projects at all, so it's nice to see it getting the love it deserves. On the other hand, while we're happy to see the appearance of Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead, we're just a little sad there's no mention of World's End to complete the 'Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy'.

A big universe like this can only mean amazing future potential, given the seemingly infinite amount of licences Funko have worked with. What's even more promising is that the devs are open to including more series depending on what fans request.
