5 Video Games Featuring Ant-Man

Published on 24th February 2023 by Ben Thompson

Five video games featuring ant-man

With Ant-Man & The Wasp Quantumania now in cinemas worldwide, Marvel fans everywhere will finally get to see how Scott Lang’s journey into the Quantum realm unfolds. Officially kicking off phase five of the MCU, superhero partners Ant-Man & The Wasp will meet strange new creatures and face possibly their biggest threat yet in the form of Kang the Conqueror.

For fans who can’t get enough of the small but mighty Avenger after seeing his latest MCU adventure; we decided to take a look at where Ant-Man has popped up in video games over the years. Whether he’s microsized or megasized, Ant-Man has always been ready to help save the day, and these games see him do just that!

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2

First up is LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2, which was developed by TT games and published by Warner Bros. Interactive in 2017. This action-adventure LEGO game is filled to the brim with a wide array of superheroes and villains from across the Marvel universe. Featuring an original branching storyline, players could choose from a huge roster of characters from different eras and realities.

Following the game’s launch TT-games released a slew of add-ons including an action-packed level and character pack to tie in with the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp. This level took players to Hank Pym's forgotten research lab, where his old adversary Egghead is hatching a fiendish plan. Tasked with battling Egghead's goons and a giant chicken mech, players can enjoy playing as Ant-Man, Hank Pym, MODOK, Egghead, Ravonna, Maria Pym, Bucky Barnes and Kang The Conqueror in an unforgettable adventure!

Marvels Avengers

Featuring an original cinematic story, Marvel's Avengers was developed by Crystal Dynamics and released in September 2020. Players could play as multiple Avenger members along their journey including many MCU favourites like Iron Man, Hulk and Thor. Although Ant-Man didn’t feature as a playable character, Marvel fans will still get a kick out of running into Hank Pym in one of the story missions.

If you’ve seen any of the previous Ant-Man films, this isn’t Paul Rudd’s character, it is the original Ant-Man played by Michael Douglas in the movies. Hank Pym is the brains behind Ant-Man’s shrinking ability thanks to his Pym Particles tech.

Marvel vs Capcom 3

Marvel vs Capcom is one of the longest running Marvel video games, with the series dating back to 1998. Its third instalment would see the first appearance of Ant-Man in the series. Although not a playable character, what made it memorable was him being part of Hawkeye’s super move where he fired him from the tip of his arrow. This also served as a nod to the famous comic book cover from the Avengers (1963) #223. Here at GAME you can go back to where the series first began with the first two games playable on the Marvel vs Capcom II arcade machine from Arcade1Up.

Fortnite

Ant-man in Fortnite

Travelling all the way from The Microverse and suited for a Battle Royale-sized encounter, Ant-Man burst into the Fortnite fray back in 2021. Designed by scientist Hank Pym, players could size up their opponents wearing the iconic Ant-Man suit available through the Fortnite Item Shop. You could even wield an oversized toothpick pickaxe with Ant-Man’s trusty steed, Ant-Thony thrown in to complete the look!

LEGO Marvels Avengers

Rounding off our list and the second LEGO game to feature is LEGO Marvel's Avengers. Released in 2016 on PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch consoles, the game featured playable versions of the classic Ant-Man (Hank Pym) and the Wasp from launch. A few months later however, a PlayStation exclusive character pack and level was added to coincide with the introduction of Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Featuring memorable narration from Michael Pena’s character, Luis, the theatrical-based level took inspiration from the first Ant-Man movie with players doing battle with Yellowjacket. Characters included in this DLC were Ant-Man (Scott Lang), Ant-Man (Hank Pym), Cassie Lang, Darren Cross, Hank Pym, Hope Van Dyne, Luis, Scott Lang, The Wasp (Janet Van Dyne) and Yellowjacket, along with Ant-Thony (Ant-Mans’ flying ant).

From family friendly LEGO games to Marvel team-ups and battle-royale encounters, that completes our roundup of some of Ant-man’s most notable video game appearances. Whilst he’s featured in some high profile releases over the years, we’d love for him to get his own game akin to Insomniac Game's efforts with Marvel's Spider-Man. His unique shrinking and super-size abilities would make for a unique gameplay hook with there being plenty of inventive ways he could dispatch his foes!
