    What do amiibo do?

Amiibo are interactive figures of Nintendo and other well-known characters that can be used in compatible amiibo games. Through amiibo characters you can access extra content, for example, using the Yoshi amiibo in Mario Kart 8 unlocks the Yoshi outfit for your Mii racer and, the Link amiibo in Hyrule Warriors unlocks a new weapon.

In Super Smash Bros, you can train your amiibo by fighting with and against them.

What do I need to use amiibo?

To use amiibo, all you need is an amiibo figure and the game that it is compatible with, to scan an amiibo into a game just place it on the icon below the D-Pad.

If you are using the new Nintendo 3DS or new Nintendo 3DS XL, you will not need any extra accessories as you can place the amiibo figure on the Touchscreen.

To use the amiibo on the Nintendo 2DS, 3DS or 3DS XL, you will need the Near Field Communication (NFC) reader/writer accessory that will be available separately in 2015.

Which games are each amiibo compatible with?

To see which games are amiibo compatible, please click here.

Are all amiibo compatible with every title?

Not all amiibo can be used in every amiibo compatible game, to see which amiibo can be used in specific games please click here.

Are amiibo figures specific to their collection title?

Amiibo figures are not specific to the collection they come from, for example, the Super Smash Bros. Mario figurine can be used in Mario Party 10, just as the Classic Collection Mario figurine can be used in Super Smash Bros.

The only real difference between the figures is their appearance.

Can I play as my amiibo in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U?

In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, you won't control your amiibo figure directly. Instead, you'll train your amiibo by battling with or against them, and by sending them into battle against other players' amiibo figurines, over time they will level up and become a more effective fighter.

Will I be able to use amiibo immediately with Super Smash Bros. on 3DS?

Super Smash Bros. for 3DS will be amiibo compatible after software and system updates to enable this function. Players using the Nintendo 2DS, 3DS or 3DS XL will need the NFC Reader*, which will be available during 2015. Players with the New Nintendo 3DS or New Nintendo 3DS XL will be able to use amiibo by placing them on the touchscreen.

    *Sold Separately

Can I still play amiibo-compatible games without owning an amiibo?

You can still enjoy amiibo compatible games without an amiibo. The amiibo figurines are completely optional and aren't essential to gameplay.

If I store game data on an amiibo, does that mean I can't use that amiibo with other amiibo compatible games?

There are two types of amiibo compatible games: read/write games and read games.

Read/Write games read information from the amiibo and then write over the data if it is updated whilst playing an amiibo compatible game. If you have already stored information on an amiibo for Super Smash Bros. then you will be unable to use that amiibo in Mario Party 10, unless you clear the amiibo of Super Smash Bros. data.

If the game uses the Read function, then you can use an amiibo that already has data from a Read/Write data, as the amiibo is Read to unlock content but nothing is written to the amiibo.

What can I modify in the "amiibo Settings" Wii U system settings?

In the Wii U system settings, you can register your amiibo with a nickname and link it to a Mii in the "Register Owner and Nickname" option.

In the "Delete amiibo Game Data" option, you can delete the game data already saved to the amiibo, allowing you to then use the amiibo with a different Read/Write game.

If you'd like to completely wipe your amiibo clean of all data, including nickname and Mii data, use the "Reset amiibo" option. But remember, once you have reset an amiibo, the data is gone.

How much game data can I store on an amiibo?

You can store game data for single "Read/Write" game on an amiibo.

How do I delete game data from an amiibo?

To delete the game data from an amiibo go to, "Wii U System Settings", then select "Delete amiibo Game Data" and follow the onscreen instructions provided.

Can I transfer game data from one amiibo to another?

No, unfortunately game data cannot be moved between amiibo figures.

Can I repair or modify my amiibo?

It's not possible to repair or modify the amiibo figures, if you are experience issues with your amiibo, please contact Nintendo Customer Support.

    Do amiibo require batteries?

amiibo figures do not require batteries.
