The tone was set with opening skit - a video of Miyamoto in a dressing room with Pikmin climbing in his pockets and running around after him.
Miyamoto then took the stage with Bill Trinen, and unsurprisingly started with the Wii U, saying they wanted it to be "the first screen people go to".
We got our first glance at a new Wii U title - and our second glance at Pikmin - with Pikmin 3. The Rock Pikmin get introduced in this game, the graphics look fantastic and the controls are a mixture of traditional Wii remote and nunchuk with the Wii U GamePad serving as a map. And there's multiplayer for up to four players, too.
Next up Reggie Fils-Amie takes the stage, revealing that the key to the Wii U is the new GamePad. He goes on to mention YouTube and other functionality, and answers the question on many lips - yes, the Wii U can support two GamePads.
With that out of the way, he moved onto more games. First up was the Wii U debut of everyone's favourite portly plumbers in New Super Mario Bros U. There's more lush visuals, Mario in a squirrel suit and the return of Yoshis, now in different colours with different powers.
Next up was Batman Arkham City: Armored Edition, with the GamePad adding even more to this modern classic - control your Batarangs using the gyroscopic controls and strategically plant explosive gels using the touchscreen.
Then came the surprising announcement that Super Scribblenauts Unlimited is also coming to Wii U, using the GamePad's touchscreen to make your creations. Then a stream of titles were announced - Mass Effect 3, Tekken Tag tournament 2, Ninja Gaiden 3 Razors Edge and Aliens Colonial Marines are all Wii U bound as well.
Wii Fit is also coming to Wii U - which gives Reggie some nervous flashbacks to a few years ago when he last demoed it on stage. It'll still use the Balance Board as well as the GamePad, either together or separately.
But it wasn't all about the Wii U. Mario made his second appearance of the day in New Super Mario Bros. 2 for the 3DS, offering more of the usual Mario gameplay but with a focus on collecting gold coins. Then he showed up again in Paper Mario Sticker Star, another game offering a twist on the original's gameplay, this time the addition of stickers to interact with the game world. Then it was time for Luigi to take centre stage in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. We only got a cheeky peek, but it looks like a big load of fun, with new mansions and oodles of new ghost foes to take out.
Back to Wii U next, with a title that really wowed the crowd - LEGO City Undercover. This is a new open-world cops n' robbers game, merged with classic LEGO humour and gameplay. The trailer showed criminals being tackles, objects being built and the characters talking!
The stage was then opened to Ubisoft, who introduced their new Wii U titles. First up was Just Dance 4, and we got a fun look at the new Puppet Master mode, which uses the GamePad to control the moves the other players have to perform. Their second title was ZombiU, a zombies-in-London affair that uses the GamePad in all sorts of ways; the gyroscopic controls help you 'push' zombies away, or the screen can be your sniper target. One of the real hits of the conference.
Nintendo closed the show with a trip to Nintendo Land - a new theme park-based Wii U title for your Mii to visit and play mini games based on beloved Nintendo properties. We were promised the chance to play five such games on the floor later, and were shown the Luigi's Mansion level as a teaser. Needless to say, we couldn't wait!
