Speaking to Game Informer, creative director for the game Marcus Lehto commented on ideas and features which did not make it into the final product.
"The mechanics of [multiplayer space battles] were pretty silly and we very quickly realised that the resulting gameplay experience wouldn't hit the bar we were aiming for," he told the publication.
Based on Halo Reach's Long Night of Solace campaign mission, the space battle section would have seen players pitted against Covenant fighters in space.
However, Mr Lehto went on to reveal the volume of work that went into the title, noting that it was an "incredibly ambitious project", which had already committed to a range of features and content.
According to the Chart Track game rankings, Halo Reach stands at number 35, as of the week ending November 27th 2010.
