Batman: Arkham Asylum sequel titled Arkham City

Publisher Warner Bros has revealed that the forthcoming sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum will be titled Batman: Arkham City.

The highly-anticipated sequel to last year's acclaimed superhero adventure, Arkham City sees the Dark Knight exploring a district of Gotham City which has been walled off to contain all of its assorted thugs, lowlifes and criminal geniuses.

Players have been promised an exciting new story, enhanced gameplay features and a massive cast filled with some of Batman's most famous allies, as well as several notorious villains.

Developer Rocksteady Studios will have its work cut out to match the success of the BAFTA-winning original, which is recognised by Guinness World Records as the best reviewed superhero game ever.

Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy was reported by Comic Book Resources as stating that the sequel will be "really, really dark" at the Chicago Comics & Entertainment Expo earlier this year.

Gamers will be able to experience it for themselves when the title launches in autumn 2011.
