Bungie taking an interest in RPGs?

Another day, another story about what Bungie's up to. That's the problem with making Halo, one of the most successful videogame franchises of all time: people can't wait to find what you're going to do next.

Maybe, what they're going to do involves RPGs. That's certainly what Eurogamer's been speculating about, having taken a look at several new job vacancies on the Bungie website.

Chief amongst them is ?player investment designer?: "Do you dream about creating worlds imbued with real value and consequence?? asks the ad. ?Can you find the fine line between a reward that encourages players to have fun and an incentive that enslaves them? Can you devise a way for a player to grow while preserving the delicate balance of an action game??

"A Player Investment Designer develops a robust and rewarding investment path, supported by consistent, rich and secure incentives that drives player behaviour toward having fun and investing in their characters."

Last week, Bungie's Brian Jarrard refused to rule out the possibility that the team was currently working on creating an MMO, and this certainly points in that direction.

Whatever happens, Bungie's next game - after Halo: Reach, coming for the 360 later this year - is going to be gigantic, and you'll read about it here first.
