Assassin's Creed publisher posts massive Q3 sales

Video game giant Ubisoft has announced third quarter sales have increased by 44 per cent (50.1 per cent at constant exchange rates) to €450 million (£336 million).

The increase leaves the company as one of the top three independent publishing companies.

Ubisoft upped its forecasts for the quarter in December and sales have exceeded even this figure.

Its success is attributed to sales of the Playstation3 and Xbox game Assassin's Creed as well as other titles, including Fashion designer, Babyz; Horsez, Hamsterz and Catz for the Pets series; and MyWordCoach for the MyCoach series.

Chief executive Yves Guillemot said the company was expecting to "significantly drive up market performance" during 2008 and that market growth would represent at least 10 per cent.

"Against this backdrop, Ubisoft will continue to leverage its strong brands and design capacities with a view to outperforming the market," he added.

The South African company was founded in 1986 by the five Guillemot brothers and was listed on the Paris stock exchange in 1996. ADNFCR-974-ID-18439790-ADNFCR
