Kingdom Hearts goes 3D for 3DS

SquareEnix has revealed that one of its most popular franchises is set to make the leap into the third dimension with a new title for Nintendo's all-new 3DS.

The gamemaker has confirmed that the tentatively titled Kingdom Hearts 3D is currently in development for the high-tech handheld, a fact which was mentioned at Nintendo's E3 press conference in Los Angeles last week.

Although few details were released on the new game, SquareEnix has promised that the title will feature the same blend of role-playing action in numerous popular Disney-themed worlds that has made the series such a hit.

The 3DS was unveiled to much fanfare by Nintendo last week, with the handheld set to offer a range of features such as analogue and motion controls, movie playback and the ability to display stereoscopic 3D images without the need for glasses.

Kingdom Hearts was last seen on a Nintendo console with the launch of Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days, which came out on the regular DS in October last year.
