Gaming's most famous race of fast-running flightless birds are to get their own racing game for 3DS, courtesy of developer SquareEnix.
The gamemaker has confirmed that Chocobo Racing 3D is in the works for the new Nintendo handheld and will star the boisterous yellow creatures, who gamers will recognise from the Final Fantasy series.
SquareEnix states that the new title, which was featured at this year's E3 industry show in Los Angeles, will see the return of some familiar faces from both the Final Fantasy and Chocobo franchises.
Because the game is on 3DS, players can also expect the high-speed racing action to be more involving than ever, as it will be presented using 3D graphics that can be viewed without the need for glasses.
The Chocobos' most recent starring role was in the Wii title Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon, released in 2008.
However, they were also featured in the recent role-playing blockbuster Final Fantasy XIII, which debuted on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in March this year.
