Mortal Kombat 'will deliver what fans are after'

Publisher Warner Bros has promised that the newest instalment in the Mortal Kombat series will be a game that lives up to the high expectations of its fervent fanbase.

The violent new PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 game has made its public debut at this week's E3 industry event in Los Angeles, allowing developer NetherRealm Studios to showcase some of its crowd-pleasing features.

Most notably, the series' legendary gore has been described as the most realistic ever, with high-definition graphics showcasing convincing blood effects and visible internal organs during the over-the-top Fatality moves.

However, the game will not just be about blood and guts, as new gameplay features such as four-player tag-team matches and a cooperative arcade mode will be making their debut.

It will also feature an epic story which sees Raiden and the forces of good travel back in time to prevent evil emperor Shao Kahn from conquering the world.

The title will be released next year and is being worked on by Ed Boon, the series' original creator.
