The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword gets full debut

Nintendo has ended months of secrecy about the new Wii entry in The Legend of Zelda series by showcasing the title at its E3 conference this week.

Entitled The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, the new title has been described by Nintendo as a "turning point" in the history of the beloved franchise, introducing full motion controls for the first time.

The game will be exclusively playable using the Wii MotionPlus accessory and allows players to become Link by using their Wii Remote and Nunchuk as their sword and shield.

As they explore the new-look Hyrule, they will use different sword strokes to subdue enemies blocking in different directions, or shake their shield to deflect projectiles back at enemies.

Although The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was the first Zelda game on Wii, Skyward Sword will be the first to be designed for the console from the ground up, which Nintendo says will help to give it "the most intuitive play control of any Legend of Zelda game to date".

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword will arrive exclusively on Wii in 2011.
