Sonic the Hedgehog creator bringing Ivy the Kiwi? to Wii and DS

The creator of videogame legend Sonic the Hedgehog is to bring an all-new platform adventure to the Wii and DS later this year.

Publisher Rising Star Games has announced that Ivy the Kiwi?, a storybook adventure from former Sonic Team head Yuji Naka, will be coming to Europe in autumn.

The game is set to be a far cry from the fast-paced action of Sonic and will see players watch over Ivy, a baby bird who must overcome various obstacles to be reunited with her mother.

Players will be tasked with creating and controlling vines for Ivy to climb as she travels through more than 100 classically-styled 2D levels, collecting feathers to boost their score along the way.

Martin Defries of Rising Star Games said: "We're elated to work on a game that's so closely associated with Yuji Naka …We hope to see Ivy the Kiwi? reach out to fans the way a little blue hedgehog did all those years ago."

Mr Naka's previous creation remains as popular as ever after 20 years, with 2009's Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games proving to be one of the year's biggest hits.
