Codemasters offers hints about Colin McRae: DiRT 3

Fans of last year's off-road racer Colin McRae: DiRT 2 have been given a few tantalising hints of what they can expect from the third instalment in the series.

Developer Codemasters' brand manager Edward Newby-Robson told MCV that the studio is already "well underway" with creating Colin McRae: DiRT 3, which he said will cater to hardcore racing fans while still maintaining broad appeal.

The Codemasters man told players to look forward to new features that have not been seen in the series yet, as well as more extreme environments and "some new surprises".

He also hinted that the game could borrow a few tricks from F1 2010, the new Formula One racing title that Codemasters is currently working on.

That could mean that confirmed F1 2010 features such as a dynamic, realistic weather system and aerodynamically-attuned driving physics may also show up in DiRT 3.

However, the threequel will have a hard time living up to the success of Colin McRae: DiRT 2, which proved to be the fastest and best-selling game in the series when it came out for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PSP, DS and PC last September.
