Nintendo reveals more Super Mario Galaxy 2 gameplay details

Nintendo has spilled the beans on a whole host of the new gameplay features players can expect from Super Mario Galaxy 2 this summer.

The superstar plumber's latest Wii adventure is to give a debut to a number of all-new power-ups, enabling Mario to create cloud platforms as Cloud Mario or becoming an unstoppable rolling menace as Rock Mario.

Trusty dinosaur sidekick Yoshi is also set to be given a few new powers in Super Mario Galaxy 2, such as the ability to create powerful light beams when he swallows special berries - perfect for seeking out hidden areas.

Novice players are to be better catered-for by the new game thanks to the introduction of the Cosmic Guide, an option which lends assistance to those who are finding certain sections particularly tricky.

Nintendo also revealed that the first game's Co-Star two-player mode is also set to make a comeback in an upgraded form, allowing a second player to help out by collecting coins and spin-attacking enemies as a friendly Luma.

Players will be hoping the new game can live up to the critically-adored original Super Mario Galaxy, which received perfect review scores from Edge Magazine and Eurogamer, among many others.
