Gears of War 3 to feature four-player co-op

One of the creators of the newly-announced Gears of War 3 has revealed that the action sequel's cooperative mode will no longer be limited to two players.

Cliff Bleszinski, design director at developer Epic Games, has confirmed via his Twitter feed that the Xbox 360 shooter will be the first to feature four-player cooperative gameplay.

This means that a quartet of players will be able to battle through the eagerly-anticipated game's story mode simultaneously, taking on hordes of Locusts side by side.

Gears of War 3 was officially confirmed for a 2011 release earlier this week and is set to be the concluding part of the explosive action trilogy.

The developer has promised that the game will serve up a "harrowing tale", as the heroic Marcus Fenix and his Delta Squad comrades stage their final stand against the monstrous Locust Horde threatening humanity.

Mr Bleszinski said the game will be "the biggest and most dramatic chapter yet in the Gears of War saga".
