Super Mario Galaxy 2 coming in summer

Mario fans should make sure to clear their schedules for summer in order to prepare for the release of the eagerly-anticipated Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Nintendo has confirmed a June release date for the gaming legend's latest colourful Wii adventure, which once again sees the iconic plumber jet off into deep space for more gravity-defying platform adventures.

As with the first Super Mario Galaxy, players can expect to guide Mario through a series of creative yet fiendish physics puzzles using his signature jumping prowess.

This time around, he will once again be joined by his trusty dinosaur sidekick Yoshi, who can utilise his bottomless stomach and grabbing tongue to swallow enemies and consume items to give him extra powers.

Players can also expect to see a number of new power-ups for Mario himself, including a drill item which allows him to burrow through rock.

Fans will be hoping the new game can live up to the standards of the critically-lauded original Super Mario Galaxy, which won the prized Best Game title at the 2009 British Academy Video Game Awards.
