Mass Effect 2 sells 2m copies

Gamers across the world have gone wild for Mass Effect 2 following its launch, with the game having already smashed through the two million marker in terms of global sales.

The sci-fi epic for Xbox 360 and PC has passed the milestone in only one week since its debut, which saw it top the all-formats sales chart in the UK.

This stellar sales performance mirrors its critical reception, which has seen the game achieve 40 perfect review scores and become one of the most acclaimed titles in recent memory.

It follows the continuing adventures of the heroic Commander Shepard, who must lead a crew of diverse and rough-edged characters on a dangerous and possibly suicidal mission to the far reaches of the galaxy.

Dr Ray Muzyka, co-founder of developer BioWare, said the game's monster debut underlines its status as one of 2010's biggest games.

He said: "We could not be more proud of the game’s universal acclaim and early commercial success."
