Mass Effect 2 project director Casey Hudson told Kotaku that the gamemaker has worked hard on making its shooting mechanics "state of the art", despite the game's role-playing nature.
He said this will bring it in line with top-line titles such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and make the game accessible to even the most action-oriented gamer.
Mr Hudson stated that in doing so, BioWare is looking to define the role-playing genre by character progression and free, open worlds, rather than by menu-based combat and fantasy settings.
He added: "That allows us to make role-playing games about anything."
Mass Effect 2 will be launching on Xbox 360 and PC at the end of the month and will feature a cast including star names like Martin Sheen.
