Batman: Arkham Asylum 'one of 2009's biggest triumphs'

Superhero adventure Batman: Arkham Asylum has won yet more plaudits from industry experts, who have named it as one of the best games released last year.

Jason Avent and Nick Baynes of developer Black Rock Studios told Eurogamer that they rated Rocksteady Studios' Batman adventure as one of 2009's highlights, praising it for its "sublime" combat.

This verdict was echoed by industry analyst Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan Securities, who called the game the "biggest triumph" of the year.

Both the gamemakers and the expert said the quality of the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC title came as a surprise given Rocksteady's relatively low profile.

Mr Pachter said: "An unknown developer took a previously unsuccessful licence and turned it into one of the highest rated games of the year."

The success of Batman: Arkham Asylum means that Rocksteady are currently working on a sequel to the game, which will once again pit the Dark Knight against his nemesis the Joker.
