Mass Effect 2 'will feature an emotional story'

Developer BioWare has promised that the forthcoming space adventure sequel Mass Effect 2 will offer gamers emotional fulfilment as well as fun, exciting action.

Dr Ray Muzyka, the gamemaker's chief executive officer, revealed to Kotaku via a conference call that it sees the new Xbox 360 and PC title as a contribution to the development of gaming as an art form with real feeling.

This, he said, means that characters in the new game such as Shepard, Tali and Grunt will be written as compellingly as possible to strengthen the bond players will feel with them.

Dr Muzyka also promised more fleshed-out storylines in the game's optional sidequests, with this extra content featuring emotional arcs of its own which will affect the overall plot.

He said: "It's about these emotionally engaging moments, these memorable moments. The game's full of them."

The sci-fi epic is the eagerly-awaited follow-up to Mass Effect and will be released next month.
