Halo 3: ODST storms to top of charts

Halo fever has once again gripped the gaming community as the latest title, Halo 3: ODST, has made its debut at the top of the all-formats chart.

The sci-fi shooter prequel, which is exclusive to Xbox 360, sold enough copies to dethrone previous chart king Need for Speed: SHIFT, with EA's racer dropping to third place.

Second spot was occupied by a very different gaming hero, as quirky puzzle sequel Professor Layton and Pandora's Box repeated the success of its predecessor in making a big splash for DS.

The only other new entry to this week's top ten was superhero mash-up Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 at number seven, while the rest of the top five was completed by stalwarts Guitar Hero 5 and Wii Sports Resort.

Next week's chart is likely to be shaken up by the launch of football behemoth FIFA 10, which is being released for all major platforms at the end of this week.
