Batman: Arkham Asylum enjoys chart-topping debut

Eager Batfans have propelled Batman: Arkham Asylum to the top of the all-formats chart in its launch week.

The highly-anticipated Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 title from Eidos knocked previous number one Wii Sports Resort into second place, as gamers rushed to get hold of the Dark Knight's new adventure.

Holding steady at number three was Ashes Cricket 2009, with sports fans clearly still gripped by cricket fever in the aftermath of England's famous win in this year's Test series.

Meanwhile, rounding out this week's top five were Activision's arcane World War II shooter Wolfenstein and Nintendo's Wii Fit, which remains as popular as ever almost eighteen months after its launch.

Next week's chart will see the release of a number of big titles, including flight simulator IL2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PSP and DS, as well as the sci-fi shooter compilation Metroid Prime Trilogy for Wii.
