Colin McRae DiRT 2 to be enhanced for PC gamers

Codemasters is to optimise the latest entry in its Colin McRae racing franchise to take advantage of the new graphical technologies offered by Windows 7 and DirectX 11.

The company has decided to launch the PC version of Colin McRae DiRT 2 in December 2009 in order to incorporate new graphical options made possible by DirectX 11, such as hardware tessellation to improve the appearance of water and increased shader performance for more realistic scale and shadows.

Codemasters will be hoping the new technology will allow it to build upon the foundation provided by the first Colin McRae DiRT, which critics praised for its high-end graphics and enjoyable gameplay.

Bryan Marshall, chief technical officer at Codemasters, said: "We believe that the DirectX 11 feature set is too compelling to ignore, especially considering how much more it can add to the visual experience for PC gamers."

Colin McRae DiRT 2 will also be released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, Nintendo DS and PSP in September.
