PlayStation 3 gamers to play as The Joker in Batman: Arkham Asylum

Batman fans who were impressed by the late Heath Ledger's rendition of The Joker in The Dark Knight will be glad to hear they will be able to assume the coveted role themselves - in a game at least.

Eidos Interactive and Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment have announced that the forthcoming Batman: Arkham Asylum will feature the option for gamers to play as the maniacal clown-faced criminal.

However, only those playing the game on PlayStation 3 will enjoy the perk - gamers who opt for the action-adventure game, based in Gotham's notorious insane asylum, on Xbox 360 and PC may just have to settle for Bruce Wayne's brooding alter ego.

The game, which is due for release in June, is tipped to be ultra atmospheric and extremely dark - as such it comes with a parental guidance tag of 16.

Avid followers of the original pointy-eared, caped crusader will not be disappointed with the game as developers managed to persuade famous Batman author Paul Dini to get onboard for the story.
