Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has seven award nominations

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare tops the nomination list for the upcoming GAME British Academy Video Games Awards, with the chance to scoop seven accolades.

Other titles also in with a chance of a successful evening include Grand Theft Auto IV, which holds six nominations, while there are five each for LittleBigPlanet and Fable 2.

In all, 39 different games all have a shot of claiming at least one award, which will be held at the London Hilton on Park Lane on March 10th.

Irish comedian Dara O'Briain will host the event, which recognises the best in technical, artistic and creative innovation among computer games.

Only the result of one award from the evening is in the hands of the public; the GAME Award of 2008.

The titles in the running to claim this prize include Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead and Wii Fit.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is a first person shooter title that can be played on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and the PC.

The difference compared to other games from the Activision franchise is that it is set in the present day rather than during World War II.
