Elder Scrolls Online has a console release date

Bethesda's long awaited multiplayer RPG, Elder Scrolls Online, finally has a console release date. The game will come to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on 9 June, including all the updates and additions that have been made to the PC game over the last year, and bearing the new subtitle Tamriel Unlimited.

That tag is likely a reference to Bethesda's other big announcement: Elder Scrolls Online is to drop its subscription charge. This will apply to the console versions, assuming you have an Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Network account, and existing PC and Mac versions of the game. Once you've bought the base game, you can play it for as long as you like without paying an additional monthly charge.

Instead, you will be able to buy “special, optional downloadable content” or use the in-game Crown Store to purchase character customisations. There will also be an optional ESO Plus membership scheme, which lets players pay monthly in exchange for exclusive in-game items, a monthly allowance of Crown currency and access to all the paid DLC.

The PC and Mac versions of the game will drop the monthly subscription charge from 17 March, with those versions of the game being upgraded to the Tamriel Unlimited edition.

Once again, Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited comes to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on 9 June.
