Rockstar tightlipped on Red Dead sequel

Developer Rockstar has commented on the frequently demanded notion of a sequel to the hugely popular western sandbox, Red Dead Redemption.

“It’s wonderful to see so much excitement and enthusiasm for the Red Dead series, and nearly 5 years after Red Dead Redemption’s release(!),” reads the latest Rockstar Newswire Q&A blog post. Sadly, there's still no confirmation of a new entry in the saddles and six shooters saga – or any of Rockstar's other popular games.

“As we’ve mentioned when asked in the past about new games in other series such as Red Dead Redemption, Bully and L.A. Noire, we don’t always rush to make sequels, but that does not mean we won’t get to them eventually,” explains the post. It's certainly true that while other franchises deliver a new game every year, Rockstar works to its own pace. There was, after all, a four year gap between Grand Theft Auto 4 and 2013's Grand Theft Auto 5.

“We have so many games we want to make and the issue is always one of bandwidth and timing. We thank longtime fans such as yourselves as always for your amazing support and please stay tuned in 2015 for announcements of what’s to come from Rockstar Games.”

That at least suggests that something will be announced next year – but will it be a sequel to a beloved existing game, or something entirely new? As is always the way with the secretive Rockstar, we'll just have to wait and see.
