The Crew to launch open beta trial

#

Fancy getting behind the wheel of Ubisoft's new openworld cross country racing game, The Crew? You won't have to wait for the game to be in the shops. Publisher Ubisoft has revealed plans for one last beta trial before release, and it will be open to everybody.

The beta will include two of the full game's five US regions, the East Coast and Midwest, as well as two vehicle classes – Street and Dirt. The beta will be available from 25 to 27 November on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

There have been many beta trials for this ambitious game, allowing over a million people to test it so far, but they were all invitation-only affairs. This new beta is completely open – all you need to do is download and play.

Although the gameplay is all about racing and driving, The Crew takes place in a persistent and shared online world and has been described as “a role-playing game with large-scale multiplayer elements”. There's also a 20-mission single player campaign that sees you infiltrating criminal gangs.

The big selling point, apart from its “MMO for cars” design is the sheer scale of the virtual USA the game lets you roar around in. Driving from one coast to the other will take about an hour and a half – faster than the real thing, certainly, but still a mammoth playground for a game.

The Crew will be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on 2 December. An Xbox 360 version will also be available.
