Super Smash Bros won't be getting DLC characters

If you're planning on picking up Super Smash Bros for the Wii U next week – and you should, it's awesome – or if you've already got it for 3DS then you can do so safe in the knowledge that you won't have to pay extra later for the coolest characters. Everyone who will be in the game is already in the game.

The news comes straight from the game's director Masahiro Sakurai, talking to Videogamer.com. "I appreciate that a major part of the excitement for these games come from which characters will appear in the roster, so I think fans could really enjoy DLC that could keep this excitement going," Sakurai said. "However, I think there might be criticism that we are cutting up content to sell characters one by one, or that we are adding things later that should have been there from the start."

Not only would DLC risk upsetting fans, it's also a distraction for the team working on the core game. "Creating a single fighter involves a huge investment, and we've already been giving it our all and investing a lot of work in the characters currently available," he added. "I think it's an incredible package in terms of the sheer amount of content in the game."

What do you think? Would you be happy to pay for more characters later on, or are you pleased that Nintendo is concentrating on the main game?

Super Smash Bros is out now for 3DS and launches for Wii U on 28 November.
