Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Nintendo's latest spin-off from the Mario series, has been given a UK release date. The 3D puzzle game comes to Wii U on 9 January next year, just in time for everyone who gets a new Nintendo console for Christmas.
The game stars Mario's mushroom-shaped sidekick, Toad, in his first solo game. Based on the bonus stages from the excellent Super Mario 3D World, the game tasks you with guiding Toad around 3D mazes, collecting stars on the way to the exit. The gameplay has been expanded to include more items and loads of bonus collectables.
The game will also see Toadette, Toad's female counterpart, making her debut as a playable character. She'll be available as a second character in certain portions of the game, once you've unlocked her by rescuing her in the 70-stage story mode.
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker will be the first of several big Wii U releases due in 2015, including cool new multiplayer title Splatoon, Yoshi's Woolly World, a new Legend of Zelda game and a Mario Maker design package that will let you create your own platform games.
