Payday 2 developer making The Walking Dead co-op game

Zombie lovers rejoice! There's another Walking Dead game on the way, and this one has the direct involvement of Robert Kirkman, the writer who created the comic book series which spawned the hit TV show. The game is being developed and published by Overkill, the European studio best known for cops and robbers shooter Payday 2.

Kirkman will co-produce the game via his company, Skybound Interactive. "I’m excited to be able to announce that Skybound is partnering with Overkill to make a Walking Dead game," he posted on Steam. "I’m happy to say that it’s the co-op game that all of the Walking Dead fans have been waiting for."

Almir Listo, producer at Overkill, explained more in an FAQ: "The Walking Dead is a co-op first person shooter with elements of action, role-playing, survival horror and stealth, that invites players to explore the hugely popular The Walking Dead universe, where they will play the role of survivors fending for themselves in a post-apocalyptic world dominated by flesh-eating walkers."

The game is due in 2016, but to celebrate the studios have collaborated to bring Lucille, the barbed-wire baseball bat that has dispatched many a walker in the comics, to Payday 2 as a free bonus player weapon.
