EA has renewed its deal with the Premier League until the end of the 2018/2019 season. Why is this important? Because it means that all-important details will continue to be accurately represented in the FIFA games, from the upcoming FIFA 15 onwards.
Most importantly, it means FIFA 15 will feature all 20 Premier League club stadiums, along with the likenesses of all players. Over 200 players have had their faces digitally scanned in 3D for FIFA 15. EA's FIFA developers have also been out and about during the 2013/2014 season, recording the crowds at dozens of matches, so that when you play against Chelsea or Liverpool or any other club, the crowd noises will be taken from real supporters, and incorporate real fan chants.
It also means that FIFA 15 will incorporate the Premier League's new Goal Decision System, which uses advanced tracking technology to let the referee know when the ball has crossed the goal line. After a goal, all the broadcast graphics will also be authentic and Premier League approved.
It's all in service of FIFA's famous attention to detail, in other words, and that all-important feeling that you're not just playing video game football, but taking part in a real match, with real stakes, just as you'd see on TV.
"It brings our award-winning game to new levels of authenticity and realism, and enables fans to immerse themselves in the drama and emotion of the league," said EA's Peter Moore. "And as a life-long Liverpool FC fan, I know exactly how that feels."
