Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker slips to January 2015

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker

Nintendo has announced that its delightful Wii U puzzler Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker will now be released in January in the UK, rather than the expected "Winter 2014" period.

The game is based on the Toad themed bonus challenges from Super Mario 3D World, in which you guide Mario's fungal buddy past obstacles to reach treasure. The game will make use of the GamePad, allowing you to tap the screen to move platforms and also use it to aim while shooting turnips at enemies.

It will also be one of the first games to make use of Nintendo's Amiibo figures, which can be placed on the GamePad to unlock new content in the game, much like Skylanders and Disney Infinity.

Wii U owners shouldn't feel too downhearted, however, as Nintendo still has action-packed Zelda spin-off Hyrule Warriors, cult combat game Bayonetta 2 and multiplayer legend Super Smash Bros. Wii U all due this year. That's not even mentioning the likes of Skylanders Trap Team, Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes and Lego Batman 3, which will all be here before Christmas as well.

Clearly, that doesn't leave (wait for it) mushroom for Captain Toad.

Stay tuned for a definite release date as soon as Nintendo announces it.
