Uncharted might be next for the remastered treatment

After mulling over a sequel to The Last of Us, Naughty Dog has admitted that a spruced up PlayStation 4 remaster of the original Uncharted trilogy is also under consideration. "It'd be nice,” Naughty Dog's Arne Meyer told IGN when asked if Nathan Drake's original adventures could come to Sony's new console to coincide with the upcoming PS4 exclusive, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End.

The problem, of course, is that it would mean rebuilding three massive games when remastering The Last of Us already proved to be a pretty huge task in itself. "I don't know how we'd ever pull that off but I don't want to say we wouldn't do it,” Meyer confessed. "I think if everything aligns, we should make an attempt to look into it and do it as well.”

It's not such good news for fans of Naughty Dog's earliest characters, however. IGN also asked if new gen revivals of Crash Bandicoot or Jak and Daxter were on the cards. Sadly, it doesn't sound like cartoon marsupials and colourful platforming heroes fit in with the studio's current cinematic action adventure style.

"I don't know if it's playing to our strengths right now,” Meyer admitted. "Right now, what's exciting everyone at the studio is continuing to work on narrative-driven games with strong characters. I think, at least for the time being, we haven't exhausted the possibilities there, but that could change with something as simple as hardware. That's what drove it before. I think we're on to something really good though creating character-driven stories so that's where our focus is going to be.”

The Last of Us: Remastered is out on August 1st. Uncharted 4 is due in 2015.
