E3 doesn't start until next week, when the big announcements will come thick and fast, but epic and bloody openworld RPG The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has jumped the queue and revealed its release date early. February 24th 2015 is the date to scratch into your diary.
That's when supernatural mercenary Geralt will return, for the first time since 2011's The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. The game will also mark the series transition to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as well as PC. The previous game was eventually released for Xbox 360 in 2012.
Also revealed were the contents of the game's standard and collector's editions. As always, developer/publisher CD Projekt Red is being rather generous, with even the normal version of the game offering bonus goodies.
The standard edition contains not only the game but a soundtrack CD, the official Witcher Universe Compendium, a map of the game world and a set of stickers. Plump for the collector's edition and you'll get all of those extras, plus a 10 hand-painted statue of Geralt clobbering a griffin, a Witcher medallion, a 200 page art book and a sturdy steel box to keep it all in.
