It's a good time to be a Wii U owner, according to the review scores being posted for Mario Kart 8. The racing game is being lavished with praise from all sides, and has already earned a couple of perfect 10s.

One of those comes from Eurogamer, which describes the title as "the best entry in a series and the most exciting yet". There's praise, too, for the additions to the 22-year-old Mario Kart formula, from upside-down anti-gravity sections to the MKTV function that lets you edit and upload race highlights direct to YouTube. "The game may build upon some of the steady inventions of its predecessor," says Eurogamer, "but in these staggering, monument-like arenas, those ideas have been given space to fully blossom."

It's top marks from Nintendo Insider as well. "This is the definitive Mario Kart experience that you’ve been waiting for," is the opening line of their review, which should tip you off that they quite liked it. "Mario Kart 8 is nothing short of sensational," it concludes. "Under the hood, it is an expertly tuned engine that roars at far more deafening proportions than anything that came before it."

There's not much of a drop off in scores from those giddy peaks either, with a slew of 9/10s from all over the internet and magazine rack. "Some of the slickest, smoothest and most exciting kart racing we’ve ever seen" says Nintendo Life. "Nintendo's years of experience perfecting this style of game are mixed with the HD visual capabilities of the Wii U for the best pure Mario Kart experience yet" is Polygon's take. "There's simply no reason not to own Mario Kart 8 if you own a Wii U" insists Videogamer, while IGN calls it "the best kart racing game Nintendo has made in a long time".

I think we get the point: Mario Kart 8 is fantastic. If you've got a Wii U, you should get this. If you've not got a Wii U, you should probably get one AND get this.
