Activision has unveiled the latest entry in the world-conquering Skylanders series. It's called Trap Team, and it allows players to capture specific enemies inside the new "Traptanium" portal device, using special elemental crystals, and then send them back into the game as good guys. You'll even be able to hear trapped characters inside the portal.
Those characters can then be upgraded in the game just like other Skylanders, giving you a new way of gaining more characters without having to buy more toys.
There will be 40 trappable baddies in the game, plus 60 new Skylanders to collect. So far, only a few have been revealed. Food Fight is a little green fella who fires vegetables from his over-sized cannon. Chopper is a mini cyborg T-Rex. There's also Aussie-accented crocodile Skylander Snap Shot. He's one of the new Trap Master characters, who all have translucent weapons and are better at defeating trappable enemies.
There's no word yet on whether previous Skylanders features - such as the remixable Swap Force characters from last year's entry - will be compatible with the new portal and game.
Skylanders: Trap Team is expected to launch later this year for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, 3DS, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. That will put it head to head with rival toy-based game Disney Infinity, which will feature Marvel characters in its 2.0 version.
